How to Create a Killer LinkedIn Sales Pipeline for Effective Lead Generation

Do you think you can just set up a profile on LinkedIn and leave it alone to generate leads for you automatically?

Unfortunately, it’s not the magic wizard of Harry Potter!

However, if done right, you can ACTUALLY transform your LinkedIn page into a sales funnel.

And how to do it, I’ll share with you in today’s post!

The best part?

You don’t need any third-party app or tons of marketing knowledge to generate quality leads from your existing LinkedIn page.

Though an uncommon strategy, but it yields excellent results.

So, instead of your LinkedIn page just sitting idle, you can turn it into a powerful lead generation funnel.

Interested to know how?

Let’s jump right in!

Why use LinkedIn?

Wait…wait….wait!

I agree LinkedIn isn’t the pet social media site for all!

man-in-doubt

Everyone prefers Facebook and Twitter. Instagram and Snapchat are more in trend now.

However, LinkedIn has ONE huge advantage over Facebook and other social media sites.

Facebook is mostly for chatting with friends or playing games. On Twitter, people generally have conversations with friends and influencers.

Inference?

People typically don’t have a business focused mindset on these sites making B2B lead generation a challenge on them.

But LinkedIn?

Everybody is thinking and talking business here. The whole purpose of the platform is to build connections, maintain a business reputation, and yes….make sales!

In short, when people are logged onto LinkedIn, they are already thinking of business in the same way as Instagram user thinks of photos and hashtags.

So, when any LinkedIn member stumbles upon your page, he’ll be more receptive to information about your business.

That doesn’t make other social media sites useless, but LinkedIn has an edge for B2B lead generation.

Before learning the strategy, let’s talk about the purpose of your LinkedIn sales pipeline.

It is, well, to make sales!

But you can’t sell a product outrageously on LinkedIn, so, we will use the platform for lead generation.

Read: How to Speed up your B2B Lead Generation?

The ultimate goal is to get people to communicate with you. This can happen when someone clicks on your profile or you send a request to connect with them.

Thus, it all starts with an exceptional LinkedIn page.

Important elements of a notable LinkedIn page

No matter how your LinkedIn profile looks right now, you can pull it up and make changes to get ready for generating leads.

linkedin-page-elements

Every part of your LinkedIn page has a purpose, but to create a sales funnel, you need to focus on these specific parts:

1. Your LinkedIn headline = your elevator pitch

Your headline displays beneath your name on your profile.

It also shows up in searches and ‘People You May Know’ section. By default, your headline displays your most recent job title.

Anyone visiting your profile is a prospect, and seeing just your job title won’t make that extraordinary first impression.

But what if your prospect sees something like this in your headline?

linkedin-headline-example

That’s very powerful folks! Your prospect will know what you can do for them before they even learn about you or your company.

To sum up, your headline is an elevator pitch, but shorter. You need a benefit-driven headline to catch people’s attention and draw them in.

To craft yours, ask yourself a question, “Why would anyone be interested in my product or service?”

Condense your answer into one line and use it as your headline.

Focus on the main benefit you give and your business name. They’ll associate your name and your face with your business.

So, does your LinkedIn headline needs a make-over?

Head over to your LinkedIn profile and click the pencil icon to the right of your profile picture.

Now that you’ve drawn attention to your profile with a benefit-driven headline, it’s time to take it a step further.

2. Captivate with your LinkedIn summary

After the headline, it’s your LinkedIn summary that can compel people to stay on your profile and learn more about you and your business.

You can take your headline and go into details about it in your summary.

Treat this section as your tiny landing page within your profile page.

linkedin-summary

First, think of all the benefits you offer your customers. Start listing them in your LinkedIn summary. You can structure your summary in bullet points or as paragraphs.

But this is important!

LinkedIn cuts off your summary after two lines with ‘See More’ option. So, make the first part of your summary short and compelling.

After this, keep the momentum going and give nitty gritty details about your business; why it exists, what it can do for its customers, contact details and URL of your site in the end.

Note this!

At the bottom of the summary editing pane, there’s an option that says, “Share profile changes”.

I highly recommend to toggle this option to ‘Yes’. It’s free marketing and will send out message to everyone in your network saying that you’ve updated your profile.

3. Direct visitors to a specific page

You can direct visitors to your profile to a specific page on your website by giving its link in the LinkedIn summary.

This can be a special offer, new product launch or career page, etc.

4. Add testimonials

LinkedIn summary is also the perfect place to add some social proof.

Your visitors are looking for a solution, and if you’ve helped others find the same solution, your prospects will feel more confident about your business.

Add a few short and punchy quotes from your customers in your summary section.

5. Use the Experience section

This part of your profile can create even more appeal for your business.

Show off your accomplishments by using links or enticing copy, but beware of bragging!

Now, after such surplus information on LinkedIn as the platform for building your sales pipeline, it’s time to know how to do so!

What is a sales pipeline?

You all know that a sales pipeline is a method for tracking, managing, and organizing your potential leads as they progress through different stages of the buying cycle.

Your leads must go through a series of steps from a sales-qualified lead to a regular customer.

sales-pipeline

Since each lead is different, you need to track their stages and behaviour along your sales pipeline. For example, one lead might start using your product after the first interaction while the other needs to interact with your content multiple times to go into the product-aware stage, and finally be ready to start using your product.

Along the way, you should help them with any questions, comments or concerns they have.

Here’s another situation!

Let’s say someone you reached out on LinkedIn saying they might need a new CRM for their recruitment process, but they are busy that week to schedule a meeting and need to research other solutions first.

So, you will note this in your sales pipeline, and follow up in a week with a content that answers their question.

Difference between sales pipeline and sales funnel

Are you confusing the two?

Well, they aren’t the same thing!

Your sales pipeline consists of every stage in the sales process that you take to move your lead from START to FINISH.

Whereas the sales funnel is the stages in the sales process your leads go through before becoming your customers. These stages are:

  • Awareness where the prospect is experiencing a problem and doing research to clearly understand and give name to his problem
  • Consideration where the prospect has clearly defined their problem and commits himself to research and understand all the available methods to solve that problem
  • Decision where the prospect has decided on his solution strategy, compiling a list of all the available vendors, and finally whittle down the list and make a final purchase decision.

Sales pipeline stages

Though this may differ depending on the buyer’s journey specific to your niche, but generally looks like this:

  • Discovery and qualifying –In the initial stage, you contact the new lead and determine if your product/service fits to their needs. You also consider their budget, requirements, and timeline.
  • Meeting the prospect – Then, you must meet the prospect to better understand them and their needs, and keep a track of all this in your CRM.
  • Proposal – Once you know what your prospect is looking for, you draft and send them a proposal describing the benefits of your service, the investment, and the expected ROI.
  • Negotiation – Depending on your proposal, your prospect will either accept it or reconsider their requirements. Many times, it comes down to their budget and if your proposal matches their expectations.
  • Closing – Finally, if everything works out, the prospect closes the deal with you.  You should also update the CRM and keep an eye for improving the customer’s post-purchase experience.

Sales pipeline metrics to track

sales-pipeline-metrics

These metrics, known as the key performance indicators (KPI) help to track the effectiveness of your sales pipeline.

  • Number of qualified leads
  • How many of your marketing qualified leads (MQL) convert to sales qualified leads (SQL)
  • Number of qualified leads turning into customers
  • Customer acquisition cost
  • Customer lifetime value

Besides these metrics, pipeline reviews are a regular part of sales. Benefits of reviews include:

  • Visibility into performance and above numbers
  • Setting of clear expectations and deliverables
  • Analyzing the sales process
  • Making sure that everyone on the sales team is on the same page

Now that you better understand the working of your sales pipeline, it’s time to know how to use LinkedIn to build it.

How to build a sales pipeline with LinkedIn?

When building a LinkedIn sales pipeline, you need information about your leads and outreach campaigns as much as you can.

However, managing all three – your CRM, sales pipeline, and LinkedIn can get overwhelming.

That’s where LinkedIn automation tools like Linkedojet come handy.

With all your sales insights and analytics at a single place, you can make better decisions on which campaigns to continue and which ones to test further.

4. Sales integration and advanced safety

When running extensive outreach campaigns on LinkedIn, safety is of prime importance.

Because if too many people decline your connect request, don’t respond to your messages or report your profile for spammy messages, LinkedIn will suspend your account.

To make sure people respond to your messages, you must use personalization in your LinkedIn messaging, which is made easier by Linkedojet.

LinkedIn Recruitment Strategy: How to Hire the Perfect Employee Using Linkedojet

Recruitment today is not the same as it was a few years ago.

The traditional recruiting tools are taking a back seat now in this candidate-driven market.

And if you don’t get your recruitment strategy right, you can’t hit your business goals.

Let’s be honest! Sometimes, you don’t know where to begin hunting for the right talent. And even if you do, you don’t know the right way!

So, today, let’s hop in to learn how to use the most popular recruitment platform – LinkedIn to your advantage.

But, before we start with our LinkedIn recruitment strategy, do you think LinkedIn is a good recruiting tool?

Let’s find out!

Is LinkedIn a good recruiting tool?

Let me answer this in numbers!

LinkedIn has over 720 million users, 50k remote jobs, 40 million people search for jobs each week, and LinkedIn claims that 3 people are hired every minute on the platform

It would be silly to ignore these figures! Isn’t it?

Still, if you have even an inch of doubt on LinkedIn’s aptness as a recruiting tool, clear it by glancing through these benefits:

benefits-linkedin-recruiting-tool

1. LinkedIn allows you to reach out to passive candidates

70% of the LinkedIn users are passive candidates which means they are not actively looking for a new job. Such users are your perfect target, and you can easily find them by using LinkedIn’s advanced search tool.

Moreover, by posting your jobs on your LinkedIn’s company page and LinkedIn groups, you can easily grab attention of relevant LinkedIn members.

Read: How to Leverage LinkedIn Groups to Generate Quality Leads

2. The platform is up-to-date and encompassing

Besides passive candidates, you also find candidates who are actively looking for jobs on LinkedIn. And as long as they are searching for a new opportunity, they keep their profiles updated with most recent experiences.

3. Leverage candidate endorsements

As a recruiter, you know that every candidate’s profile on LinkedIn has an endorsement section and recommendations from the candidate’s network. Both these features can help you shortlist the right talent for your needs.

4. LinkedIn helps you conduct reference checks

With this LinkedIn feature, you can easily find common connections between you and the candidate for quick reference checks.

A recruiter at Devin Blanks of DB Search Group — a Minneapolis-based staffing and recruiting firm, has been using LinkedIn for recruitment for the past couple of years, and this is what he has to say:

“I have personally been a part of the LinkedIn community since my early career. Currently I have been using it frequently to connect with many hard-to-find professionals whom we may not have had the opportunity to connect with using more conventional means.
“Most recently, we wanted to fill a Senior Director of HR position. As this position was more complex than usual and called for a very specific skill set, I used two different approaches to using LinkedIn.” First, we posted the position, and second, we viewed potential candidates through second and third-party connections via my immediate contacts and requesting an introduction. I got great response, met with a few candidates, and filled the position with a LinkedIn member.”

I hope…..No, I am sure I have convinced you on using LinkedIn as a part of your recruitment strategy.

So, what’s next?

How to use LinkedIn for recruiting?

linkedin-recruitment-strategy

To attract the right candidates on LinkedIn to your job offer:

Post your job directly on LinkedIn

This helps as the platform will present qualified job seekers for your posting. Further, applicants can apply for the job directly on the platform, unclogging your Inbox.

Use your LinkedIn network

On LinkedIn, you can elicit candidate recommendations for a particular job offering. You can tap into your network on LinkedIn to get quality referrals or even the network of your current employees by asking them to share the job opening with their LinkedIn connections.

Stay in touch with your former, trusted colleagues

Don’t lose touch with people with whom you’ve successfully worked in the past. They could help you in potential future employment and recruitment possibilities.

Use your company page to sell yourself as a potential employer

Don’t have a company page on LinkedIn yet? It’s high time you do it now! With over 50 million companies posting on LinkedIn, set your company apart with a dedicated company page on LinkedIn.

This helps candidates have insights into your company before they join you as employees.

Use keywords to actively search for candidates

Use keywords related to the qualifications you are looking for in your ideal candidate. In this manner, you can narrow down your search and devote time on the profiles of only the suitable ones.

Build your own keyword-rich profile

Thought keyword-rich profile is only for job seekers? Well, absolutely not!

If you are searching for the right candidate, he/she is also searching for the right employer; to know more about them, their company, and requirements, and finally compile a list of companies they would like to work in. So, develop a complete, keyword-rich profile of yours and your company on LinkedIn.

Send InMails

With LinkedIn now putting a limit on connection requests you can send over a day; it becomes more important to send InMails rather than invites to your target candidates.

With InMails, you can reach people to whom you aren’t connected yet, and find great prospects to fill your job offer.

Take advantage of LinkedIn groups

Members of a LinkedIn group can share interests, memberships, content, and also help you connect with a potential employee.

Besides these ways to hire the right talent on LinkedIn, the platform also offers two recruiting tools to make the process easier.

LinkedIn Recruiter

It’s an all-encompassing hiring platform for recruiters and hiring managers to find, connect with, and manage the candidates you wish to hire for your opening.

Bonus features

New Strategy to Get Past the New LinkedIn Connection Limit

“Ah! These monstrous number of sales messages on LinkedIn.”

“People are trying to sell me out the gates”

If that’s your concern, it’s absolutely valid. Because LinkedIn wasn’t created to push as many people for sales as possible, rather a network-focused community.

When someone agrees to be a part of your community/network, he/she doesn’t give you the license to be sold right from minute 1.

Yet, what was designed to build relationships with like-minded professionals turned into a way to blast people with as many messages as possible.

How LinkedIn combats this problem?

LinkedIn has lowered the weekly new connection limit FOR SOME ACCOUNTS to as low as 100 per week or 400 per month.

Does that call you in for a surprise?

Of course, it would if you are a company/individual who heavily relies on LinkedIn for its business activities.

So, what does the new LinkedIn connection limit mean for you?

Major problems due to the New LinkedIn Connection Limit

problems-of-new-linkedin-connection-limit

This LinkedIn connection limit affects everyone, some for the better, and some for the worse.

It helps to those who:

  • Use LinkedIn for networking
  • Feel bombarded by messages as soon as they log into their LinkedIn account
  • Put time and efforts in crafting every message they send across
  • Sit down and work through to know who their ideal prospect is, their needs, and where they are looking to go.

But…but…but…

If you are the one who sends over 2000 connect requests in a month, this LinkedIn connection limit is a shock. With weekly invite limits dropping off massively to just 100, your results are likely to drop by 80%.

But did you ever realize? If your LinkedIn search yields 1000/2000+ possible fits per month, is it worth relying on?

Don’t scratch your head trying to understand what I said! You probably know that LinkedIn filters are unreliable. Going after prospects that fit within a few LinkedIn filters won’t get you in front of the right people.

It’s more of a pig in a poke rather than generating quality and relevant leads for your business.

Read: How to Speed up your B2B Lead generation process?

So, if you rely on this pig-in-a-poke approach to LinkedIn, this connect limit is going to hurt.

However, if you think deeply, this new LinkedIn connect limit is a good thing!

Why weekly LinkedIn connection limit is a good thing?

  • It will reduce the overall volume of messages or the noise of spams on LinkedIn
  • It will hurt and stop people doing massive spammy outreach on LinkedIn
  • As irrelevant spammy outreach messaging reduces, high-quality outreach will have a better chance to stand out
  • With targeted and highly relevant personalized messages, you’ll increase your overall engagement rates

So, is there a solution to get past the LinkedIn connection limit?

solution-linkedin-connection-limit

Solution to LinkedIn connection limit doesn’t mean violating it and not letting LinkedIn know about it. You can boost your LinkedIn outreach with LinkedIn automation tools like Linkedojet.

But take the following precautions:

DON’T: Sell right away

Though social selling is a leading strategy, but sending a sales pitch without building any connection with your leads puts them off and kills any chances of further conversation.

Therefore, before selling, try to get to know your prospects by engaging in conversation with them. Find out their interests and build your selling point from there.

Read: How to Connect with C-level Executives on LinkedIn the Right Way?

DON’T: Add all your connections to your leads list

With an automation tool, you might get tempted to send a message to everyone in your connections list. A single click might save you hours, but you’re also setting yourself up to be marked as spam.

When a user doesn’t know much about your business, receiving unsolicited messages from your end is a sure way to ruin your first impression.

DON’T: Take conversations outside LinkedIn without their permission

It’s natural to talk to someone outside of LinkedIn after the initial conversation. However, don’t start messaging your leads with your sales pitch outside the social platform, without their permission.

Instead, if your leads accept your connect request on LinkedIn, use it as an opportunity to build trust and eventually convert it to a sale. Don’t rush the social selling process. Sending them messages on a different platform will just slow it down further, if not completely put you on their blocked list.

DO: Filter your connections as per whether they allow InMails or not

InMails are an extension of LinkedIn’s basic messaging feature, and allows you to send requests and messages to your 3rd degree connections on LinkedIn. However, the feature can be used by only those having a premium LinkedIn account.

LinkedIn places some limitations on sending out InMails as well, and for good reason.

It’s tempting to send mass messages without truly taking the time to connect with every user.

For one, you can’t send another InMail message to a user until they respond to the first message you sent. But there’s no need to worry; an automatic reminder is sent to the receiver within three days.

Another rule is that InMail messages that don’t get a response within 90 days won’t be credited back to you. Auto-replies are considered as a response, in case your prospect is away for a while.

New Strategy to Get Past the LinkedIn Connection Limit

If you really wish to win relevant and quality leads on LinkedIn, drop your pig-in-a-poke approach first.

Filter out your connections based on if they have enabled InMails or not. Prospects who have enabled InMails should be sent messages in InMail only, otherwise, send connection message.

How to Write InMails that Evoke a Response

-writing-effective-inmails

Though writing InMail messages that guarantee a response is not easy, but you can always improve your pitch.

1. Mention your mutual connections

Always mention mutual connections between you and your prospect. Look for a common friend, colleague, connection, or maybe you and your lead went to the same university or worked in the same company. This can improve the response rate by 21%.

2. Keep it short and sweet

While LinkedIn allows 2,000 characters in your InMails, it’s best to keep your InMail messages shorter. Engage quickly but make it fruitful.

3. Catch their attention with the subject line

To convince that your lead opens your InMail message, keep your subject line short and personalized. You can opt to include their name, send it on a weekend, or even pose a question.

4. Don’t shy away to personalize

Always personalize your content up to the very small details as possible.

Mention as many references as you can– their skills, interests, recent LinkedIn page updates, etc. A small point to something personal can help show your leads that you spent the extra time and effort to get to know them.

Role of Linkedojet in this strategy

With Linkedojet, a cloud-based automation tool, you can:

  1. Run a drip campaign for your LinkedIn outreach. A drip campaign is a kind of marketing communication divided into bits and spread across an extended period, to gently nudge your prospect to take an action instead of selling directly. Since it is based on user behaviour and considers their unique needs and preferences, it engages your leads in a highly personalized manner
  2. Have your customized dashboard to analyze the results of your LinkedIn marketing campaigns.
  3. Manage multiple LinkedIn accounts, even with LinkedIn connection limit, from a single dashboard

Conclusion

LinkedIn new connection limit is a boon to your lead generation by avoiding spams and irrelevant messages on the platform. Avail it to your maxim by using LinkedIn automation tools to get past the new limit and generate quality leads for your business.
